Course Overview:

Established in 1916, the Mannes School of Music has a history of over a hundred years and is renowned worldwide as one of the top music schools, ranking among the top ten in the United States. Located in the heart of Manhattan, New York, adjacent to New York University, the faculty at the Mannes School of Music consists of some of the most accomplished musicians and artists from New York City and beyond. Many of them are recipients of prestigious awards, and their works have been showcased on global stages. Today, many musicians active in the Metropolitan Opera House and around the world have graduated from the Mannes School of Music. The purpose of this event is to provide young pianists and instrumental students with opportunities to develop skills, expand their musical interests, immerse themselves in music, and promote the growth and creativity of young musicians. Under the guidance of renowned Mannes Prep teachers, participants will undergo intensive training to hone their ensemble skills and deepen their understanding of music. The two-week immersive experience culminated in a performance at the concert hall of Mannes School of Music.

Time: 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM (Lunch break from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM)

Location: Mannes School of Music, Manhattan, New York

Eligible: Students from Grades 3 to 12 (Ages 10-18)

Instruments: Piano, orchestral instruments, guitar, percussion, etc.

Requirements:

Grade 7-12 (*Application Closed)

2 videos showcasing your current performance level, as well as 1 video of your choice demonstrating two octaves of scales.
A recent school transcript (preferably in both Chinese and English).
A brief music biography, including information on private teachers, duration of study, and ensembles participated in (preferably in both Chinese and English).
A description of your recent chamber music experiences, including instruments played and repertoire performed by your ensemble (preferably in both Chinese and English).

Grade 3-6

Applicants are not required to provide performance videos or other written materials above but must have at least six months of instrumental performance experience to apply. Most students participating in the program have 2-5 years of instrumental experience and are at an intermediate to advanced level for their grade.

Detailed Plan:

Arrival in New York, USA on July 28, 2024.

Students will stay for 13 nights at a renowned 4-star hotel in the heart of Manhattan. This accommodation arrangement, like our high-quality courses and support services, is worth highlighting. The hotel is only a 2-minute walk from the Mannes School of Music, saving a significant amount of commuting time and transportation costs, ensuring students' safe travel and providing a more efficient learning environment. Located in downtown Manhattan, the surrounding area offers a wide range of dining, shopping, and entertainment options, as well as convenient access to major landmarks, universities, and museums, many of which are within walking distance. During leisure time, students and parents will have the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of American culture and immerse themselves in the diverse life of New York. This is in stark contrast to the typical tourist itinerary, where sightseeing occurs during the day and accommodation is in suburban hotels at night.

In addition to the two-week music course, students will have a complimentary Manhattan city tour during the weekend. Students and parents can also choose to participate in various other activities and services Manhattan ACE provide. Leveraging our experience and expertise in American K-12 education as well as university applications, Manhattan ACE has tailored a series of thematic seminars and courses specifically for Chinese students and parents. These include English reading and writing experience classes taught by American teachers, guidance on American university application essays and processes, as well as social events with American high school students and special concerts. Our aim is to enhance students' English language skills, provide more opportunities for interaction with American students, and offer parents firsthand insight into American education and university application details, equipping them with updated and specific information to support their children's academic pursuits and future studies abroad.

On weekends, you can also choose to participate in cultural tours of Boston University or historical tours of the United States capital, Washington D.C.

We also offer the option of lunch delivery service. During the one-hour lunch break from Monday to Friday, students are required to bring their own lunches. We have arranged for delivery services from restaurants near the school.

August 9, 2024: Summer camp performance report.

August 10, 2024: Hotel check-out, end of summer camp, return to home.

Fees: Based on a student + one parent (one parent must accompany). Including course fees,

13 nights in a 4-star hotel in Manhattan, one-day sightseeing tour of Manhattan. Excludes visa fees, round-trip airfare, and meal expenses.
